Hey! Third week in a row! Look at me go!

Not too much to report. My house started the week a complete and total disaster area. I've downgraded it to just a total disaster area. Kitchen renovations and my husband's need to jumpstart before I can organize are the culprits. The good news, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Plaster repairs are done so we are slowly getting to the painting. Which is a pain because I can only do one wall at time because of having to move appliances around. But if things go well most of it should be done before my parents arrive on Friday. Here's hoping.

New job still going well. I've decided I definitely do not like putting out new magazines and cleaning that area up. I am way too OCD to work in that section, lol. But I'm enjoying my time there and some of the titles of books that I have come across just make me giggle.

On the writing front. Sorry if any of you got bombarded with TtH and AO3 notifications. I'm trying to get everything uploaded from where some of these fics have only been hanging out on my LJ. But I did get the next part of the Buffy/Bones series up, so yay! I'm hoping to start working on my heroine big bang fic this week, which is a Buffy/Steve fic crossing BtVS/Marvel MCU.

Cheers to all!

I'm on a roll :D )

So past the boring news for you, and to something exciting. I'm going to polish up the next part of the Fish Climbing Trees series and get it posted sometime this week. So yay!

Hope everyone has a good week!

So I realize I have been really rather absent as of late. Real life has been a struggle and it's hard to find the energy to write, post, respond, etc with any sort of regularity when all you want to do is sleep and worry about, well, about everything.

What happened? )

Had my anatomy ultrasound this morning....

And I'm having... )

*looks at clock* 11:30pm. Yup, the earliest I've ever been done on Christmas Eve. I even have Miss Thing's birthday presents wrapped and ready for her party on the 26th. (For those who may not know/remember her birthday is the day after Christmas)

So yeah, been a while since I've posted, but I swear, I've got the bestest of the best reason ever.

And Pol's reason.... )
polgara_5: (Infectious)
Miss Thing has a new argument technique. She's starting to figure out commercials on tv, and especially the ones geared to her age group. So she'll see something advertised that she wants (primarily these Princess Pet things from Disney) and we'll have a conversation that goes like this:

"Mommy, can you buy my that?"

"No."

"But mommy, I want that."

"I know, but I'm not buying you that."

"But mommy, I'm the cutest."

*headdesk*

My June word count: 3091
My June fandoms: BtVS, Avengers, and Star Trek AOS

June was a rough month. I dropped out of Tamingthemuse for two weeks because RL sucking beyond all reason and needed to spend some time with my family and recouping. But July is a new month filled with the annual sister camping trip, wedding anniversary, and the first time I've had the 4th off in about ten years. :) I'm determined this month will be better.

So I'm sitting in the play area at the mall letting Miss Thing wear off some energy on this rainy day before the story time that my store hosts. I've witnessed two sets of young kids playing zombie games. The first two were about seven and were just taking turns being the zombie. The second set there were three of them and they played zombie in the middle.

Just figured most of my flist would find that as amusing as I did. :)

And so I've been sick for the past week or so and Miss Thing has been horribly concerned that Mommy doesn't feel well. On Friday it was just me and the munchkin that day while my husband was at work so I just kind of let her go and do her thing while I rested in the chair in the living room. At one point she comes in with one of her teacups to her kitchen set.

"Here mommy, I made you tea."

"Thank you."

"It has a spoon in it."

"Yes, I see that, thank you."

"Use the spoon to drink mommy, it's hot."

lol, someone has watched mommy drinking her hot tea. And seriously, my kid is awesome. All of three years old and she was 'taking care' of her mommy when she wasn't feeling well.

Hello everyone! Sorry I've been so out of touch, but it's been ridiculously crazy here. The months (yes, I said months) leading up to Christmas were a bit overwhelming and I just sort of phased all sorts of things out to try and ease up what was going on.

all behind the cut for ease of the flist )

Not doing my New Year's Goals this year. It just makes me sad.

On a writing note: Any outstanding prompts I owe people - sorry, I'm wiping the slate clean. I've been struggling to fill them and the muse isn't cooperating. I'm really wanting to get back into writing and I feel like those backlogs are hovering and they make the muse want to cry. I'm also tossing any previous story ideas that have been floating around this house for the past several years. Relax Ava, not the Buffy/Steve or the Buffy/Bones stuff. Just the fic ideas I've had for years - like a Buffy/House fic... I haven't even watched that show in years.

Also, for those waiting on the Undertow sequel... *winces* You're gonna have to keep waiting. Not feeling the Stargate love. Jack isn't speaking to me. However, I'm planning on doing a show rewatch this year and maybe that'll kickstart things. It always helps when I do that with BtVS. *crosses fingers*

so how has everyone else been?

Miss Thing has been spending this evening 'trapping a ghost' in our dining room. One would think a child of 2 and a half to run screaming from whatever 'ghost' she has discovered. Mine, decides to trap it. *shakes head*

Nothing like spamming your flist. :)

On a potty training note from today....

So today hasn't been an overly successful one on the potty training trend. Plus, we ran out of panties today because it was laundry day, so we were forced to put her in a pull-up this afternoon while her clothes were in the dryer. She's big enough now that we give her run of the house (not like any of the old obstacles work anymore, anyway) so she had been upstairs playing in her room.

She comes downstairs and I hear my husband ask her about the location of her diaper. I look up from the computer and all she has on is her t-shirt. So I ask, "Where's your diaper, naked butt?" She just grins and says, "Diaper wet." So I ask, "What did you do with it?" She keeps grinning and says, "Mommy, I luv you." And keeps saying it as a means of distraction.

Btw, found the wet diaper just laying in the floor of her room. *rolls eyes*

Yes, one day, I will get my shit together and be on top of things. Of course, that will be the day the world collapses.

Continuing with the He-Man theme from the last post...

So we have introduced her to She-Ra as well, and she likes it, but is definitely more interested in He-Man. And she gets a real kick every time he transforms from Prince Adam into He-Man. So much so, that today while I was getting ready for work, she was playing in the bathroom and managed to get my swiffer duster off the shelf. I hear her mumbling something, so I stop and listen a little harder and she starts talking louder. Next thing I know, she comes around the corner, holding the swiffer duster high and saying. "I have power!" Then continues doing this repeatedly. Ocassionally throwing in, "By Greyskull. I have power!" *shakes head*

Also, was fixing pepperoni rolls yesterday and she was 'helping'. She had her own little bit of dough to play with and a few slices of pepperoni. She was kneading/stretching the dough, imitating me. Then suddenly she's pushing the dough on the table trying to stretch it out saying, "Come on He-Man!" *facepalm* I laughed so hard. Then of course, all night any time she was doing something 'tough' (like trying to open a cabinet door that had child safety locks) she would keep saying it.

I think I need to find her a new show to watch...

Damn that cold wouldn't go away. Urgh.

So here we go, another tale of the adventures of Miss Thing...

She has a new cartoon obsession, thanks to her father - He-Man. The original one. Mostly she just likes when he goes from Prince Adam to He-Man and she loves Cringer/Battlecat. She roars everytime he's onscreen.

But here's the funny part. So this evening she was pointing to the tv and saying He-man so we'd start an episode rather than watch Mythbusters. I told her no, that she had watched enough that day (not that I'd really know since I worked all day, but the hubby had been home all day). She goes over to the hubby and says, "Daddy, He-man please?" Why yes, we have been working on the manners thing - you know, saying thank you when someone gives you something, and of course, saying please when asking for something.

Damn if the hubby didn't turn off Mythbusters and put in He-man. She soooooo has his number.

Also, we are down to 2 goldfish. Lost two of them to ick, and aren't really sure what killed the last one. Good thing we only paid 28 cents apiece.

Yeah, I know, I missed yesterday. But Miss Thing has passed yet another cold onto me and I was barely functioning yesterday. Ugh. But onwards....

So this is somewhat of a continuation from the Day 5 story. She's got her 'obsessions' with what she wants to watch on tv, and she definitely has favorites out of her video collection for her 'obsession'. For examply, she absolutely adores Mickey's Christmas Carol, even going so far as to cheer when the video starts.

In effort to steer her away from watching the same things over and over and over again, I began to make suggestions that always started with "How about..." I also did this when she would continually ask for chocolate milk. However, my intelligent little girl began countering my suggestions.

A typical conversation for a while went like this:

Miss Thing: Mickey!
Me: How about Phineas and Ferb?
Miss Things: How 'bout Mickey!
Me: No, we just watched Mickey. How about Phineas and Ferb?
Miss Thing: How 'bout Mickey!

Now just picture this conversation going on with just about everything from what she was eating to what clothes to wear. (and yes, she's started being picky about clothes already)
polgara_5: (Default)
So Miss Thing has adopted her father's need for the tv to constantly be on as background noise. She doesn't always watch but she likes for 'her shows' to be on when she turns her head to the tv screen. In addition, she's gone through 'favorites'. Phineas and Ferb was the first, and mostly because she loves the music in it. I can frequently catch her dancing to it and I've downloaded enough songs to play in the car as well. From there, she moved on to Short Circuit. Yeah, I don't get it either. And she likes the first one rather than the second one. But we went through the "Number Five" thing for a while

Then came Winnie the Pooh, which was a little tough because there aren't that many Pooh videos out there, and that's counting the newest one. Then overnight it was Mickey Mouse, and again, hard to find for a while. We were stuck watching some christmas special for nearly three weeks. She knows Mickey's Christmas Carol by heart - stating what's going to happen on screen before it does.

Currently, her love is Scooby Doo which makes the hubby happy because it's his favorite cartoon. This morning she kept asking "Where my Shaggy go?" until we started the disc for her. *shakes head* My Shaggy indeed.
polgara_5: (Default)
We took Miss Thing to a nearby zoo when she was 7 months, her favorite part - the aquarium and the penguins. Took her again at 20 months, her favorite part - the aquarium and the penguins. The lady who cuts my hair has a huge fish tank in her salon and Miss Hailey is fascinated the whole time we're there.

So the weather here is doing its weird its warm for a week and then freezing for a week thing it always does instead of an actual spring. Hubby decided to buy some feeder goldfish to put in the two watering troughs for his parents horses, and Miss Thing took a great delight in watching these fish and setting them free.

This morning, as Miss Thing and I were doing our morning ritual of Mickey Mouse watching, hubby starts bringing in one of our old fishtanks. (At one point in time we had three going - 2 ten gallon tanks and one 55 gallon. We still have them but stopped using them years before we moved into this house) Now granted, it was one of the ten gallon ones, but I was like wth? He grinned sheepishly at me and said he figured we'd buy some feeder goldfish for Miss Thing and if any of them died, we'd be out 28 cents.

So we went to Walmart and bought six fish along with some food. All the way home, you hear "Fishies! I got fishies!" Now, she won't let you turn the light off on the tank. "Daddy! Turn light! Fishies!" And was tickled to death when hubby let her feed them before bedtime.

Already, we are down to five fish. One didn't make it through the evening, not that she noticed. I have a bad feeling I'm going to be replacing feeder fish every few weeks. Of course, knowing my luck, one will never die.
polgara_5: (Default)
So yesterday I'm putting Miss Thing down for her nap and I laid down beside her to snuggle for a little while. She looks at me, all serious like and says, "Mommy, I sleepy." then procedes to make fake snoring noises. Needless to say I laughed my ass off. I don't even know who taught her how to fake snore. And of course, she refused to repeat the noises for her father that evening when I told him the story.
polgara_5: (Default)
Another favorite game of Miss Thing is when I'm sitting in the chair or on the couch and she'll stand just outside of reach. She'll hold her hands out like she wants to be picked up and adopts this upset look on her face and says "Reach you! Reach you!" You are expected to reach your hands out as well and respond "I can't reach you! Oh no!" Then she grins and launches herself at you and expects to be covered in kisses and hugged to death. Then she repeats the whole process over again. She could do this forever.
polgara_5: (Default)
Miss Thing's current favorite game is to "fall down" and then look at you and say "You okay?" until you ask her. Then she gets up grin, runs, and "falls down" again.
