So last week, instead of writing my super fun prompts, I got stock doing not-super fun budgeting stuff when my program decided to stop showing my register. *rolls eyes* I had to create a whole new file and of course nothing would cross over. I still don't have everything inputed, but I can at least see how much money I have and will have (or rather not have) in future days with my recurring bills/budget etc.

*pouts*

So instead of taking new prompts this week, I'll just write up the ones from last week.

On the work front, got three lovely ladies hired. The boss lady wants me to try and hire men, but like I keep telling her, they gotta apply first and then not be an asshat second. Seriously, one guy I interviewed this week told me he liked to keep his weekends free. *jaw drop* Dude, you realize this is retail, right? No wonder Kmart was giving you crap hours. You have crap availibility. Then the idiot told me that the shirt he was wearing wasn't his first choice, but he had spent the night at a friend's house and didn't have time to go home and change... His interview was at 4:30pm. (clothing came up because i work at the Gap, and part of the interview process was them picking out two outfits that best fit their personal style) Dude was a serious asshat. *sigh* Hopefully gonna hire a few more, but my pickings are getting rather slim.

While not everyone is suited to working in retail (I'm one of them), jobs are scarce enough these days that anyone with any sense of self respect whatsoever is going to be damned glad to take whatever they can get to make ends meet. Bunches of rant deleted. I just do not get the attitude of so many people these days who have to have just the right job, with the right hours and benefits, or they refuse to work. I worked steadily from the age of 16 until I was medically retired and was never without a job more than a few months, even when I was a full time college student. Those jobs were many and incredibly varied because I most often took what I could get to make ends meet, whether I liked the work or not. Nope. Do. Not. Get. /rant despite best intentions

Yeesh. I hope your budgeting software straightens up and flies right soon; that sort of thing is the pits when it goes down and a real time thief. :-p

Hugs and well wishes to you and yours.

Retail is tough, and I never thought I could do it either since stupid people irritate the crap out of me. But my theatre background suits me well, I just 'play the role' of a sales person half the time. It's not too bad when I get to have fun and really help the customers shop for gifts and whatnot. Plus, we get enough regular customers who I adore that it balances out the asshats.

Ever since I took over the hiring two years ago, it never ceases to amaze me how lazy people are in regards to trying to get a job. They won't fill out all of the application, leaving references blank, typos galore. Want to work 40 hour work weeks but have extremely limited availibility. Think I'm gonna pay them $10 an hour when we are sitting in the lowest pay band in the country. *shakes head* People are just morons.

Granted I didn't have an actual job until I graduated from college, but by then I had a work ethic. My parents required me to do things to help out around the house ever since I was little. I was in the band in high school and the band director had strict rules about attendance. During concert band season if you missed five practices you were not allowed to perform. In college my schedule was so full I couldn't squeeze in an actual job. I'd have class in the morning, work in the workshop during the afternoon, have one-act rehearsal in the late afternoon, and then usually a main stage rehearsal for three hours in the evening. But I was learning all aspects of theatre, many times have a design position and acting role in the same show and required to deliver. So my work ethic was there, just not actual work experience.

*shrugs* And I don't always look at work experience when I hire. Yes, it's nice, but I also know that just because you don't have formal experience doesn't mean you can't get the job done. Heck, I've hired quite a few who this would be their first job and they've been wonderful employees who got the job done. Which then just amazes me the idiots who do have experience and yet just completely suck. /rant *grins*

*hugs* Well wishes to you and yours as well!

When I worked retail, electronics, we had the exact opposite problem. Finding women who knew enough or wanted a position outside Customer Service/Cashier. *shakes head*

To this day I still don't understand people wearing jeans to an interview. Regardless of where you'll be working.

The jeans thing doesn't bother me overly much since denim is 25% of our profit. But they need to be styled nicely and in a trendy fashion in order for me to not think they just rolled out of bed. However, the three girls I hired, they were all nicely dressed. One wore a skirt and blazer, another dress pants and a cute top, and the last a suit. *grins*

Plus, they were of the intelligent sort who could talk to people, understood appropriateness of clothes and how to sell them. Even the girl who had no retail experience whatsoever was at least able to relate to me during the roll playing section of the interview. There were small selling points she didn't do, but i can teach that. Teaching how to relate, not so easy

And yes, Gap has a roll playing section in the interview process. Seriously, takes an hour for a part time sales associate position. However, since I adopted this method, I seem to screen out the okay they could do people and just get the I really want this person on my team people. :)

An hour? Wow. Ours were about 15 minutes unless I was interested in the person and then they got the completely random questions like: How do they get the Ms on the M&M and so on.

Those were fun times. :)
