So just got back from a glorious three day weekend in Jonesborough, TN at the National Storytelling Festival. I'm here to tell you, that everyone on my flist should go next year. Seriously. Not joking.

Just picture it. Three days of hearing stories from professional tellers from not just the States, but other countries. To hear stories from other cultures. To hear stories that make you laugh, cry, remember things from your own life. To hear amazing stories crafted from our daily language and yet each one is given its own life rooted in the mind of the teller. To hear modern tall tales that start off with seeming innocence to only slightly exaggerated real life experiences.

Anyone who loves to read or hear a good story should go, especially those who write. To get a chance to hear that many different kinds of stories, to hear different structures, to hear how they interweave the humourous with the poignant is truly a blessing.

Talked my hubby into going with me this year - he's a redneck for those who don't know him - he loved it and was already talking about us going back next year. We got to hear Bil Lepp (five time winner of the WV Liar's Contest), Donald Davis, Carmen Argo Deedy (gorgeous and funny), Michael Reno Harrell, and Andy Offit Irwin's Midnight Cabaret just to name a few. There were over 20 featured tellers, and that doesn't count the youth tellers or the special invites so we didn't get to see everyone. Man, can't wait to go back though. :D

Seriously, everyone should go next year and if you pre-order your tickets you can get them at a discounted rate. And you don't have to go all three days either. You can just go one, two, or the whole weekend. Here's the link for anyone interested *nudges everyone*: National Storytelling Festival
